South Africa returns to increased Covid-19 alert

South Africa returns to increased Covid-19 alert

Pretoria, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday announced, after meeting with the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), the country has returned to the most restrictive Alert Level 3.

Among other measures, Alert Level 3 means that night curfew hour will start at 10:00 p.m. (local time) and conclude at 04:00 a.m. (next day).

Non-essential establishments such as restaurants, bars and gyms must close before 9:00 p.m. in order to allow employees and customers to go home before night curfew begins.

All meetings will be limited to max 50 people (indoors), and 100 people (outdoors). Whether the center is too small to accommodate these amount of people in proper social distancing, no more than 50% of the facility’s capacity can be used.

On the other hand, funerals and cremations cannot exceed 50 people, and all health and social distancing protocols must be respected. No night vigils and post-funeral gatherings.

Justifying the need to take these actions, Ramaphosa recalled that, in just over two weeks ago, average toll of new daily coronavirus infections has doubled.

Our priority is to be sure there are enough hospital beds available, enough healthcare workers, ventilators, and oxygen to provide the best possible healthcare for everyone.
