Trump said in a statement that he would join Texas Governor Greg Abbott to visit ¨our nation´s decimated southern border¨ on June 30.
The former president’s trip will take place amid his increased public appearances, while conservatives are paving the way for the 2022 legislative elections, for which they are taking advantage of tycoon’s followers in order to pull in votes.
Earlier June, Trump spoke at a GOP event in North Carolina and he is expected to hold rallies in Ohio on June 26 and in Florida on July 3.
Trump’s announcement was the latest sign that, since leaving the White House on January 20, Trump intends to keep challenging the Democrat by holding out the possibility of running again in 2024.
His objective is to get on TV as much as possible, to stay in the media center because he knows how much that would help him in case he makes up his mind to run for president once afresh, an analyst quoted by the USA Today newspaper said.
On the other hand, Trump´s visit to the border will occur at a time when GOP seeks to delegitimize the current Joe Biden administration´s immigration issue management, The Hill reported.
Joe Biden has reversed some of Trump-era policies aimed at restricting the entry of migrants legally and illegally, but his adversaries blame him for provoking the presence of a record number of Central Americans in the border region.
