The Talibans had held Nirkh and neighboring Jalrez districts since May, after heavy clashes with national forces.

Violence in Afghanistan has seen a notable increase in the last few weeks, after the United States failed to comply with its plan to withdraw its troops last month.

The Biden administration set September 11 as a new deadline to leave Afghanistan, which was supported by its allies from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

However, the announcement fails to stop the escalation of violence this nation is experiencing, despite peace talks are being held in parallel.
