’80 years ago, Nazi Germany mercilessly attacked the Soviet Union. The West turned a blind eye waiting for its destruction,’ Cuban president live-tweeted.

Four years of war, with 27 million dead people, could not counter the Soviet people´s heroism, he posted.

Honor and glory to the Great Patriotic War, which stopped the Nazi war machine and placed the Red Flag onto the Reichstag dome, thus marking the end of the dark fascist night, Díaz-Canel stressed.

On this day, the Cuban president expressed gratitude and admiration for the Soviet contribution in a phone talk with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

‘In a phone conversation with esteemed President Putin, I conveyed my sincere admiration and gratitude to the heroic Soviet people for its decisive contribution to the victory over fascism,’ Díaz-Canel added on Twitter.
