The Portuguese representative spoke on behalf of the EU to reiterate the opposition to the US economic blockade, which has an extraterritorial natures, he added.

In addition, the community bloc pronounced itself against the inclusion of Cuba in Washington’s unilateral list of State sponsors of terrorism.

The presentation by the United States of Cuba as a sponsor of terrorism, without presenting evidence, has prevented commercial transactions with Cuba, the Portuguese official commented.

The US blockade catastrophically affects Cuba’s economy and the standard of living of its people, stressed the EU speaker at the UN General Assembly.

The EU also considered that the continuity of the US blockade and the measures imposed in the last four years, such as the ban on US travels to Cuba, limits communication with that country, he said.
