Pineapple vitroplants are being studied in central province in Cuba

Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, Jun 23 (Prensa Latina) Specialists from the Bioplant Center on Wednesday are assessing the adaptation process of MD2 and red Spanish pineapple vitroplants for subsequent sowing.

After 90 days, seedlings already planted in a hardening nursery will complete the enlistment process till they are transferred to production areas for their corresponding grow and develop.

Specialists Yemeys Quiroz and Lianny Pérez are in charge of assessing the evolution of seedlings, to which they applied biostimulant extracts, replacing chemical fertilizers.

In spite of complex epidemiological situation in Ciego de Ávila due to Covid-19, both specialists continue their researches, always complying with hygienic and biosafety measures.

Introducing new varieties of pineapple in the province will make it possible to substitute imports in tourism sector, to export better fruits and to better help the food-processing industry to produce juices, concentrated juices and sweets in syrup.
