Czech republic would support an European Union-Russia summit

Prague, June 24 (Prensa Latina) Despite the diplomatic crisis between this country and Russia, Czech prime minister, Andrej Brabis, announced today his intention to support a resolution leading to a European Union (EU) summit with the European Asian country.

The relations between the Czech republic and Russia are at its lowest, but, communication is necessary, the head of the Government said in EU summit in Brussels, quoted by International Prague Radio.

Babis indicated that his country considers the possibility of supporting a resolution from the community block to reestablish to the highest level contacts with Moscow, through a meeting between European heads of state and russian president Vladimir Putin.

A proposal presented by Germany and supported by France, means to invite Putin to a meeting with the European top executive, the same source said,

Under the argument that it was the Russian intelligence that was responsible for a fire that happened in a powder magazine in Czech town of Vrbetice in 2014, Prague expelled last April 17 18 diplomatic members of the neighbor country.

Moscow replied asymmetrically by declaring persona non grata 20 employees from the Czech embassy in this capital, to which followed a series of expulsions of respective diplomatic personnel.

Brussels summit will continue until tomorrow and it will determine the block’s common position concerning the future of the relations to Russia and Turkey, its migratory policy, the climate change and the fight against Covid-19.
