Experts in Uruguay are cautious about decrease in cases of Covid-19

Montevideo, June 24 (Prensa Latina) Experts in Uruguay warned today about carelessness about preventive practices and unnecessary circulation, despite the decrease in the number of cases of Covid-19 in the country.

According to the infectious disease specialist, Julio Medina, in three weeks of June, Harvard’s index showed a reduction of 102.71 infections to 53 per each 100 thousand inhabitants, while patients in intensive care went from 555 to 364. But, next , he emphasized that ‘still we should not abandon good practices that keep us safe’.

As for epidemiologist Jacqueline Ponzo, she pointed out that ΅with or without vaccine, with one or two doses, let us keep: distance, correctly used masks, ventilation, avoiding agglomerations, interpersonal contacts reduction΅, and she criticized that population mobility increases.

Other experts in the fight against the pandemic suggested to be cautious about the decreasing numbers due to the experience of new outbreaks in other countries and in the context of the spread of the variant called Delta from the virus SARS-CoV-2, spotted in India.

Members of the disintegrated Honorary Scientific Consulting Group worked mostly during their performance in the systematic tracking of cases to pick again the lost epidemiological track.

The National Emergency System reported in the day a thousand 805 new positive cases, 22 thousand 761 active infected and another 25 deaths for a total of five thousand 374 during the pandemic.
