Moscow expressed its concern about the incident and considered the actions by the British warship are unacceptable and inconsistent with international law, Peskov added.

The spokesman warned that the Russian border guards will continue to be quite tough if anyone tries to stage provocations in the future, such as the incident with the Defender, TASS news agency noted.

The Presidency press secretary informed that Moscow will take appropriate measures at the diplomatic level.

On Thursday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the British Government of lying about the incident in Russia’s territorial waters.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out that her country will respond ‘comprehensively’ to those provocations.
