Governor applies closure of Santiago de Cuba due to Covid-19

Santiago de Cuba, Jun 26 (Prensa Latina) Santiago de Cuba's Governor Beatriz Johnson on Friday applied the closure of that province starting this Saturday as part of the measures to stop the SARS-CoV-2 spread.

In a televised appearance, the member of the Council of State urged to maintain productive, economic and social dynamics and to redouble the regulations to prevent Covid-19 disease, which in this territory maintains a peak in the daily reports of the Ministry of Public Health.

This almost absolute restriction of access will be maintained for 15 days, Johnson indicated, mentioning as exceptions the trips for deaths and illnesses of family members and traveling abroad, which will be duly analyzed and controlled.

The limitation of movement, whether pedestrian or public and private transport, is considered imperative because about 60 percent of Covid-19 cases caught SARS-CoV-2 outside their homes, the governor noted.

Among the priorities are the effectiveness of investigations, the rigorous control of the access points, the exhaustive follow-up of the outbreaks and events, the institutional and community fight against violations and indiscipline and the elimination of crowds.

Although the pandemic situation excludes the province from being the most complicated in the country, which is located in Matanzas and Camaguey with over 400 Covid-19 cases each, the truth is that the figures are far from being favorable.

In the midst of this upsurge of the pandemic in Cuba, the health intervention with the Abdala vaccine candidate is taking place in five of its nine municipalities in Santiago de Cuba, and the volunteers who were placebos in the third phase of the clinical trial are receiving their first dose.
