Total contagions in Cuba have increased to 188,023 since March 2020, Dr. Francisco Duran, head of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), said at his daily press briefing on television.
Dr. Duran added that 183 patients are being treated in intensive care units, 70 of whom are in critical condition and 114 are seriously ill.
According to MINSAP, 1,841 people were discharged from Cuban hospitals on Monday, so the number of recuperated patients rose to 172,262.
Cuba’s chief epidemiologist informed that 17 people died on Monday due to complications related to the disease, so the death toll rose to 1,270.
At this time, 42,126 people are under epidemiological surveillance, 9,209 are suspected cases and 18,482 are under surveillance.
Although Havana was the epicenter of Covid-19, a slight decrease has been reported for several days with 387 cases on Monday; while Matanzas province reported 753 and Santiago de Cuba 330, for a national incidence rate of 252.9 per 100,000 inhabitants.
Upon informing about the progress of the immunization process with the Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus vaccine candidates, developed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV); and Abdala (CIGB-66), engineered by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), the specialist said that 5,676,321 doses of those vaccine candidates have been administered so far.
