Political bids affect biosecurity due to Covid-19 in Angola

Luanda, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) The political parties of Angola have been called to suppress massive acts that could aggravate the epidemiological situation in the country as a result of biosecurity alerts for the Covid-19.

According to the Ministry of Health, the province of Luanda presents the most complex picture due to the circulation of several strains of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the community.

In the opinion of the entity, a positive response from political groups is to be expected after the first public warning made on Tuesday by the Minister of State and head of the Security House of the President of the Republic and new coordinator of the multisectoral commission for the prevention and fight with Covid-19, Francisco Pereira Furtado.

The Government announced on June 7th the extension for another 30 days of the special regulations to contain contagion, under the declaration on a situation of public calamity.

These regulations contemplate the continuity of the national quarantine, as well as the maximum numbers of participants in activities of various kinds; however, the political parties continued their calls for marches and demonstrations, violating the provisions.

Furtado discussed the issue with the representatives of the entities with seats in the National Assembly, as they must redouble their compliance with biosafety measures during the exercise of their activities, he stressed.

The meeting was attended by leaders of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA) and the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola coalition (CASA-CE).
