Sri Lanka requests international aid to assess damage to ecology

Colombo, Jul 2 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Justice of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry, requested the aid of international experts in order to assess an amount for the indemnification for the damage caused by the fire on board the MV X-Press Pearl ship.

Sabry presided over a teleconference with representatives of international organizations, during whcih he spoke in detail of the actions undertaken by the local government to obtain a compensation for damage.

After the Exchange the Minister decided the request the assistance of foreign experts in order to obtain a correct estimation in terms of environmental and economical losses.

The official explained on Friday he is taking measures to restore the life level of the local fishing community.

The head of Sri Lanka’s Marine Environment Protection Authority, Dharshani Lahandapura, called the event ‘the worst environmental disaster in the country’s history.’
