Bolivia condemns murders of indigenous children in Canada

La Paz, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Movement for Socialism (MAS), the ruling force in Bolivia, Evo Morales, on Saturday condemned the murders of indigenous children in religious boarding schools in Canada.

‘We condemn the atrocious and inhumane experiments that colonialism in Canada imposed on the lives of hundreds of indigenous children forced to starve as if they were animals. That is the genocide of the ‘Indian problem’ applied in complicity with the church’, Morales wrote on Twitter.

In recent weeks, the discovery of more than 1,100 graves of unidentified indigenous children on the grounds of government boarding schools run by the Church has made headlines around the world.

These centers held minors for their reeducation in Western values, and according to various Canadian native peoples organizations, they were subject to physical, emotional and sexual abuse under the idea of reeducation to eliminate expressions of Aboriginal culture.

The murders took place during almost the entire 20th century, and some of them were probably executed in the last years of the past century, when the above mentioned schools were established.

Survivors and relatives of the victims carry out a campaign that vindicates the memory of all those affected by these events, condemned by the majority of Canadian civil society.
