Japan to provide Covid-19 vaccines to Pacific nations

Tokyo, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Japan will provide three million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine as of mid-July to Pacific island nations and territories, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced.

The Japanese head of Government noted that the vaccines will be provided through the Covax global vaccine exchange program, supported by the United Nations.

Leaders from Japan and Pacific island territories affirmed the cooperation during a virtual meeting on how to build an open Indo-Pacific region.

At the meeting, Japan also promised to provide assistance to help Pacific countries recover from the current Covid-19 pandemic by strengthening health care systems.

Tokyo also pledged to help improve infrastructure facilities, among other measures.

Suga and the Pacific leaders also reaffirmed their cooperation in areas such as maritime security and climate change
