According to reports by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luanda, Minister of National Defense and Veterans of the Homeland, Joao Ernesto dos Santos, and Minister of the Interior, Eugenio Cesar Laborinho, also take part of the meeting.

The 23rd Virtual Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the SADC on Political, Defense and Security Cooperation was preceded by a forum of experts, held on July 5 and 6, the Foreign Ministry’s announcement indicated.

Among the main issues of interest to the region are the terrorist threat to northern Mozambique, hence the bloc’s recent decision to provide military aid to the Government of that nation.

Growing attacks to defenseless populations have devastated Cabo Delgado province, in northeastern Mozambique, since 2017. Its possible expansion is a danger for other countries of the region, estimated the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government that approved sending troops.
