In statements to the press, the diplomat called attention on ‘the powerful wave of external pressure on the legitimate Government of President Daniel Ortega’ to destabilize the country and oust the Sandinista National Liberation Front from power.

Zakharova warned about the ‘flagrant interference in the internal affairs of Nicaragua, particularly in financing matters, which is clearly reflected in the US legislative framework,’ TASS news agency reported.

She recalled that in November 2018, former US President Donald Trump approved an executive order declaring the situation in Nicaragua as ‘an extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.’

In December 2018, Washington approved a law that blocked any kind of financing for the Central American country by international banks, and monetary and financial institutions and organizations.
