Record heat in Spain: up to 47 degrees in Guadalquivir

Madrid, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) Spanish Meteorological Agency does not technically speak of a 'heat wave' because this assumes a longer duration than that currently foreseen, but estimates for today peaks on thermometers over 40 degrees, but also up to 47 in the Guadalquivir valley and in the central areas of the country.

For the time being in all of Spain only the regions of Galicia and the Basque coast of the Cantabrian Sea have been spared by the arrival of this mass of boiling air from Africa and started on Friday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

On Tuesday, temperatures should drop, especially on the Mediterranean coast and in the Canary Islands.

The weather alert concerns 13 communities, of which 6 (Andalusia, Aragòn, Castilla y Leòn, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Madrid) marked with the orange alert for an important risk. In Andalusia, 44 degrees are expected in Cordoba, Granada, Jaèn and Seville: this is about ten degrees above the averages for the period.
