Italian jurist describes US policy towards Cuba as cynical

Rome, Jul 22 (Prensa Latina) Fabio Marcelli, director of the Institute for International Legal Studies at the National Research Council (CNR) in Italy, accused the US Government of cynically taking advantage of the pandemic to increase the destabilizing pressure against Cuba.

Author of several articles and essays on issues related to politics and international law, Marcelli has a blog in the digital edition of Il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper in which he published almost 1,000 works in the last ten years.

He praised the Cuban response to the domestic health emergency through a strategy that includes, among other things, a national immunization plan with its own vaccines, and abroad by sending doctors to several countries, included Italy.

Today, he added, the proliferation of variants of the virus imposes new challenges and the economic damage is enormous, with a particular impact on tourism, Cuba’s main source of income, for which, he said, ‘discontent has therefore causes and real roots.’ Learning a little about the Cuban reality, he considered that the counterrevolutionaries will not have much to rejoice in the end, as the response of the conscious and organized part of the people who took to the streets following the call made by President Miguel Diaz-Canel was important.

The jurist reflected in a dialogue with Prensa Latina about these and other issues related to the aggressive policy by successive US Governments against Cuba, in which he highlighted that the campaign unleashed against Cuba, before and after the disturbances, shows new aspects with respect to other previous ones.
