Nicaragua calls on OAS to respect for Cuba

Managua, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) Nicaraguan government on Tuesday strongly rejected a call from the Organization of American States (OAS) to debate on Cuba´s situation and called for respect for the Caribbean nation's right to self-determination.

According to Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Murillo, OAS´ call to address a situation triggered by USA and its ‘brutal and criminal’ blockade against Cuba is ‘shameful’ and ‘indecent’.

‘Nicaragua expresses its strongest rejection of this call that intends to echo a cruel, treacherous campaign of misinformation and media manipulation to destabilize and generate conflict,’ Murillo said.

Murillo ratified that Nicaragua will not heed that call or lend itself to any attempt to violate Cuba´s sovereignty, free self-determination and independence.

Cuba has not been OAS´ member nation for over five decades and expressed its no interest in being one member again, and such a choice must be respected, stressed Murillo, who praised infinite resistance and fighting capacity of the Cuban people.

Nicaragua also announced that it will be send a ship with food to aid Cuba to face the challenges came out of the Covid-19 pandemic, tightened by growing US hostility and its blockade.
