The Republican senators demanded the United States Department of the Treasury and the White House to implement new measures against the project, which is about to be completed, according to its operators.

The legislator described the political consequences for the Government of President Joe Biden as catastrophic, in case that his administration gives in to such blackmail, Kosachov said.

On Wednesday, Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the work, informed in a communique that the gas pipeline is 99 percent built and stated that ‘the Fortuna pipe-laying vessel continues to operate in the last section of the project.’

Nord Stream 2 is a joint project launched by Russian gas giant Gazprom and five European companies. Its pipelines will transport up to 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year, linking Russia with Germany via the Baltic Sea.

In recent days, the United States and Germany signed an agreement according to which Washington will stop hindering the start-up of Nord Stream 2.
