China to take measures on US arms sales to Taiwan

Beijing, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) China on Thursday warned the United States that it will take the necessary measures if the northern country continues with the announced arms sale to Taiwan, after ratifying opposition to movements like these and also its sovereignty over the island.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded Washington revoke this decision, respect the joint communiques and the One-China principle if it wants to maintain risk-free bilateral ties, peace and stability in the region.

The Ministry demanded the cessation of the military ties with Taipei and denounced that those actions, such as arms sale, send wrong signals to the forces promoting separatism.

‘Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. The United States interferes in its internal affairs and undermines China’s sovereignty and security interests,’ the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a communique, emphasizing that the US action goes against international regulations.

The report responded to the approval this Wednesday by the US Department of State of the sale of 40 artillery equipment to the southern island, estimated at 750 million dollars.

The international community adopted with 170 votes a resolution in 1971 that considers the People’s Republic of China the only legitimate representative to the United Nations and recognizes Taiwan as an inalienable part of that Asian nation.
