The communication chief of the Turkish Presidency, Fahrettin Altun, declared on Twitter that the main generation units were not damaged, while the mayor of the town, Osman Gurun, assured that the flammable materials were evacuated.

The flames caused explosions in the power lines and the authorities anticipate possible emissions of carbon monoxide.

Turkish Navy ships assisted in the evacuation of residents of 10 adjoining neighborhoods, while Gurun described the situation as ‘chaotic’ in statements to the HalkTV station.

More than 180 fires hit the south of the country in the last week, causing at least eight deaths, while the intelligence services are investigating the causes of the disasters, according to the Anatolia news agency.
