Tropical depression affects Dominican Republic with heavy rains

Santo Domingo, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Heavy rains with gusty winds are affecting the southern region of the Dominican Republic today with the arrival of tropical depression Grace to the territory.

Grace is located near latitude 17.4 north and longitude 70.2 west, about 260 kilometers east-southeast of Port-au-Prince, Haiti and 825 east of Montego Bay, Jamaica, and is moving westward at about 24 kilometers per hour with maximum sustained winds of 55.

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) is keeping on alert the entire coastal perimeter of the country from Pedernales to Cabo Engaño (on the south coast) and from Cabo Engaño to Manzanillo Bay (on the north coast).

According to Onamet, significant accumulated rainfall, thunderstorms and gusts of wind are expected in several regions of the national territory.

The Emergency Operations Center keeps 12 provinces and the National District on red alert (maximum) and the rest of the country on yellow (minimum).
