In a telephone exchange on Wednesday, the leaders agreed on the need to solve the conflict in that country in order to maintain stability in the Central Asian region, the Kremlin press service reported.

According to the Tajik Presidency, Putin and Rakhmon discussed joint actions to strengthen the protection of the countries’ border with Afghanistan, taking into account that the escalation of tensions in that nation may have an impact on the general state of regional security.

The Presidency also indicated that the heads of State addressed various issues of bilateral cooperation in the commercial, economic, military and technical areas, as well as relevant issues of the regional and international agenda.

Both sides discussed preparations for the upcoming summits of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2021, to be held in Dushanbe, taking into account that Tajikistan holds the leadership of both formations.
