Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin deplored that Washington uses the alleged poisoning of government opponent Alexei Navalny and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project as pretexts to impose punitive measures on Russia.

As he indicated, the Navalny case is purely internal and it is unfair to hold the Russian government responsible without the existence of evidence.

He also considered the sanctions for Nord Stream 2 as irrational and warned about their negative impact on normal cooperative relations.

‘The hegemonic thought and conduct of the United States goes against the will of the peoples and the international community must reject it,’ he said.

As part of the new sanctions package, the White House will restrict imports of certain Russian firearms, equipment and nuclear technology for one year starting on September 7th.
