Cuba boosts socioeconomic development amid hostile US blockade

Havana, Aug 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban government is currently boosting its economic and social development despite negative impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States nearly six decades, a specialized source reported.

Speaking at the 2nd virtual meeting of Cuba at Present Time, a space for reflection on challenges faced by the revolution, Deputy Minister of Economy and Planning Mildrey Granadillo said US blockade has been the most unequal, prolonged economic war ever imposed on a nation.

Despite of this, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and global economic crisis, Cuba stands out for global access to health, education, culture, sports, justice, security and social assistance, Granadillo said.

In past five years, Cuba’s domestic economy has challenged the obstacles posed by the tightening of the hostile US blockade, which has made it possible to preserve the conquests of the Revolution, she added.

Granadillo also enlightened that the 2030 national economic and social development plan has been approved, and its goals are intertwined with the UN sustainable development agenda.
