US GDP grew 6.5% in Q2, well below expectations

Washington, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) The United States economy grew substantially at 6.6% in the second quarter (Q2), but still fell short of expectations as supply-chain disruptions and labor shortages continued to temper growth despite a big boom in consumer spending, the Commerce Department reported.

From April to June, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 6.5%.

According to the report, the GDP rise was due to the fact that the Covid-19 vaccination campaign and massive economic benefit stimulated domestic consumption.

In Q1 2021, real GDP increased 6.3%, revised downward from 6.4%.
