More than 100 parties could run for elections in Haiti

The list does not include the main national political platforms, which refused to attend the elections until a consensus among the country’s forces is reached.

The CEP also confirmed that a drawing of lots will be soon held to assign a number to each political structure, although the Council declined to announce a date to hold elections.

By late July, the entity closed voter registration with 119 parties, and September 26 as a tentative date for the elections, although CEP president Guylande Mesadieu acknowledged the possibility that they are postponed.

After President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated and Prime Minister Ariel Henry took office, the latter tries to dissociate himself from the commitments with the CEP and confirmed that in order to reach an agreement, he could reconstitute it.
