Mexican president highlights mass participation after disasters

Mexico, Sept 9 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Thursday completely devoted his morning press conference to highlight mass participation in the fight against the natural disasters that occurred in the country.

The president called on all coordinators, civilians and soldiers, governors and promoters, to submit a report on all the participation and aid in the face of the effects of several hurricanes and storms, serious floods and the 7.1-magnitude earthquake that affected 11 states.

He said that aid is being delivered to every house, with the assistance of the armed forces and many state agencies. They are currently in the second stage of an exemplary procedure.

This stage started with a housing and households census, so they know the number of houses and families affected. Based on this, decisions will be made to support the people equally and without privileges and without stealing the aid as before.

The sum of 35,000 pesos in cash (1,800 dollars) will be given to each family whose house was damaged or destroyed. Therefore, the total sum exceeds 100 million dollars and the material aid exceeds that amount many times over, due to household items, furniture, drinking water and food, besides medicines.

He said that the central government has the support of governors like during the earthquake because he could communicate in the command posts in the 11 affected states, where they already had a report on what had happened. He particularly highlighted the humanitarian work of all the armed forces that continue to play a key role in the aid they are taking to the most remote places. They also saved many lives.
