This process we are carrying out now in Cuba is a great challenge, but it has as precedent the antipolio campaign that began in 1962. Now there are more children to immunize, in this case against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid -19, Lopez explained on Cuban television.

Following the schedule, the first group concluded, which is made up of students from senior high school, and those from medium-level technical and pedagogical training schools, among others.

They were administered the Abdala vaccine, the first in Cuba and Latin America, starting on September 3, and now those who for different reasons could not be vaccinated will be immunized.

She recalled that on September 5, as part of a pilot plan, vaccination started in the province of Cienfuegos, 253 kilometers east of Havana, for all pediatric ages, and on September 8 in Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) special municipality.

On Friday morning, vaccination with Soberana 02 began for people aged 11 to 18 in the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Havana, Matanzas, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Guantanamo and Santiago de Cuba, Lopez informed.
