Local authorities linked the surge to the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and suspect the first patient was an individual from Singapore.

They declared seven localities at risk of contagion, interrupted public transportation in much of the city and began to check the health of the population, in search of silent carriers of the disease and people with fever.

During the summer, China experienced the worst resurgence of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic in Wuhan in 2019, but it managed to control it and was even able to open the school year normally.

In general, the Asian giant accumulates 4,687 deaths and 124,995 infected in its mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan since the emergence of the disease.

It vaccinated more than two billion national and foreign citizens against Covid-19 with its own drugs, while it maintained shipments to a hundred nations either for exports or aid.
