Mr. Kazemi will travel to Iran on Sunday to attend the first meeting with Raisi since his assumption in August.

Iraq solves a third of its gas and power needs by transactions with its Iranian counterpart, requiring an exception permit from the United States. Since last April, Baghdad has acted upon Saudi Arabia-Iran talks aimed at re-established relations broken off since 2016.

In Kazemi’s working agenda in Iran also includes Iranian visas for visiting Iraqi holy sites.
