Cuba advocates respect for women’s rights

Geneva, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's permanent representative at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Juan Antonio Quintanilla, called on Friday for respect for the rights of women and girls in all countries and under any circumstance.

Speaking at the 48th session of the Human Rights Council, the diplomat assured that the States must guarantee, through dialogue and cooperation, the safety of women, especially those who live in conflict settings.

Quintanilla warned that in these scenarios, the violation of the right to food, housing, education, health and participation in economic, political and social life is frequent.

This forum should be able to address these issues as structural causes of gender inequality and discrimination, he noted.
