Biden tries to seek consensus on common challenges at UN

United Nations, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Joe Biden on Tuesday focused his first speech as the President of the United States at the United Nations General Assembly on urgent challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change.

The president made his appearance at a time when the United States is in the middle of public disagreement with France, one of its oldest allies, and when other partners question some of its foreign policy decisions, especially regarding the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

That is why, as it had already been anticipated, to try to bring together nations to face current challenges because ‘this is the clear and urgent choice we are facing at the dawn of what must be a decisive decade for our world.’

A decade that will literally determine our future, the occupant of the Oval Office emphasized from the UN podium in New York.

Biden praised himself on his efforts to rebuild alliances and renew commitments to multilateral organizations, describing the recent US military retreat from Afghanistan not as a withdrawal from the world stage.

For the president, the withdrawal was a pivot towards a new chapter of ‘relentless diplomacy’.

Instead of continuing to fight the wars of the past, we are setting our sights on dedicating our resources to the challenges that hold the keys to our common future, he considered.
