Speaking at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the president wondered how it is possible that only 10 countries in the world have 75 percent of all the doses of vaccines produced against the disease, a fact that she considered an international political failure.

Selfishness will only delay the end of the pandemic. Cooperation must be our basic principle, not an option, she said.

On the other hand, she stressed the urgency of reducing polluting gas emissions and thus contributing to the protection of the environment.

We have to speed up our response to the climate crisis. Our common task is to save the planet. It is also necessary to support those most affected and people who are forced to leave their homes due to natural phenomena, she said.

Caputova also called for respect for an international order based on regulations and the rule of law.
