Bolivia elected member of PAHO’s Executive Committee

La Paz, Sep 23 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia stands out among the three member states elected to the new Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the national newspaper Ahora el Pueblo reported this morning.

The South American nation, along with Argentina and Jamaica, was elected the day before at the 59th Directing Council of PAHO and the 73rd Session of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas.

The new members for th 2021-2024 period will replace Barbados, Ecuador and the United States, which will complete their mandates at the end of this Executive Council.

The other members of PAHO’s Executive Committee are Costa Rica, Haiti, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba and Suriname, according to a press release issued by the organization.

Since PAHO was established on December 2, 1902, this Andean-Amazonian territory has been in charge of this position twice: the first time between 1999-2002 and the last time in the period 2007-2010.

Since 2020 and for the second consecutive year, given the current global health situation, it is held virtually and openly, while the discussions scheduled until tomorrow, Friday, are focused on the Covid-19 pandemic.
