Cuban President congratulates Mexico on independence bicentennial

Havana, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, congratulated Mexico today on the bicentennial of its independence.

In a message on Twitter, the president greeted his Mexican counterpart, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on the date commemorating the entrance to the capital of the three-guarantees army and the signing of the act that forever separated Mexico from Spain.

‘Congratulations # Mexico on the #Bicentennial of independence. Congratulations President@lopezobrador. When your people celebrate, Our America celebrates’, the head of state wrote.

The Central American nation commemorated on Monday the 200 years of the historic date with a show in the Zócalo Square of the Mexican capital.

On September 27, 1821, the ‘Three-guarantees’ Army arrived in the city, led by military Agustín de Iturbide, in what is considered the consummation of independence.

‘What we lived that day 200 years ago forever marked our political separation from Spain’, López Obrador said in a message to the nation broadcast yesterday on television and social networks.

From the political independence, the new nation went through very difficult and painful tests until it became what we are today, the president acknowledged.

Thanks to women and men who throughout history have fought to raise the name of Mexico uphigh with courage, he added.
