Cuba’s Minister monitors nickel production in Holguin province

Holguin, Cuba, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's Minister of Energy and Mines Livan Arronte monitored today the production of nickel during a tour of industries dedicated to the extraction of the metal in the municipality of Moa, in the eastern region of the country.

At the Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara company, the head of the sector analyzed the delay in deliveries, due to non-compliance with the metallurgical efficiency, which only reaches 57 percent, because of the low extractable in the Reduction Furnace Plant, among other causes.

Arronte arrived at that site in Holguin province, to analyze the working conditions of employees, wages and other matters of interest, and recognized the effort made in such difficult conditions.

According to reports from the local La Voz del Niquel radio station, the director of ‘Che Guevara,’ Leonardo Rosell, explained that in order to reverse such situation in the entity, several investments are being made, as well as maintenance and repair works in the plant.

In the meantime, the minister fulfilled a similar work agenda at the Pedro Soto Alba mixed company. He inquired about the production and capitalization processes, and got in touch with the personnel of that industry.

Nickel is one of the traditional exportable products of Holguin, where there is a portfolio of about 35 items of goods and services for foreign trade.

The Minister of Energy and Mines also visited the Moa Fuel Oil Plant, inaugurated in 2015, which has been lately affected by the low availability of inputs and means of protection for its workers.
