The air defenses of the base managed to shoot down the drone and no casualties or material damage were reported, according to the Athr Press news portal.

According to the source, the drone was launched from the neighboring province of Idlib, where radical groups continue fighting under the umbrella of the Organization for the Liberation of the Levant – formerly Al-Nusrah Front – in the international terrorism list.

On last August 27th, the anti-aircraft defenses of the Russian military aborted a similar attack, in which the radicals used two rockets and a drone.

At the request of Damascus, Russia sent forces to Syria in 2015 to contribute to the fight against terrorism, which are mainly concentrated in the Hmeimim air base and the Tartous naval base.
