China and US to examine bilateral relations

Beijing, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) Senior representatives of China and the United States will review issues of interest in bilateral relations in Switzerland as a continuation of the talks held between their presidents last month, the Foreign Ministry of China reported.

According to a brief statement from the Ministry, Yang Jiechi, director of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party, will attend the meeting in Zurich to talk with the National Security Advisor of the United States, Jake Sullivan.

The meeting will be held in accordance with the consensus reached by Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden on September 10th and the central objective will be ‘to exchange views on the China-United States ties and relevant issues.’

The meeting follows the return to China of Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou after nearly three years of house arrest in Canada on US allegations of bank fraud, sparking a diplomatic storm between the United States, China, and Canada, but although it is not there fully resolved, the return of the executive raised expectations about a possible improvement in Beijing-Washington ties.

It became known at the beginning of the week that the United States Trade Representative, Katherine Tai, will soon hold talks with the Deputy Prime Minister of China, Liu He, and the central issue would be the agreement reached during the mandate of former President Donald Trump to bring an end to the commercial war.

In addition, White House officials mentioned future contacts with Beijing to analyze compliance with the commitments made in that pact and begin a process to exclude certain products from US tariffs.
