The number of Covid-19 patients in Cuba falls to 15,284

Havana, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's national director of Epidemiology, Francisco Durán, informed today that 15,284 persons in the Caribbean country are sick with Covid-19, a figure that shows a steady fall of cases.

In his usual broadcasted press conference, Durán informed that in the last 24 hours, 2,638 new infected persons with the SARS-CoV-2 virus were detected.

Of the 15,284 patients receiving assistance, 14,973 are clinically stable, while 311 are in intensive care, 223 of them are in a serious condition and 88 are critical.

Regarding pediatric cases, 587 were detected in the last hours, including 29 children under one year old, 17 under six months old and seven newborns.

In the last 15 days, 12,249 infants fell ill at a rate of 817 per day, said Durán.

The specialist informed that 3,461 medical discharges were granted to patients who suffered from Covid-19, and now the number of recovered patients has reached 900,697.

From March 2020 till now, 923,966 citizens were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Cuba.

The head of Epidemiology in the island regretted the death of 37 people in the last hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 7,928.
