Cuban President praises talent and work of decorated scientists

Havana, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today stressed that the Hero of Labor distinction is a prize for the talent, sacrifice, discovery and work of those who achieved the national vaccines against Covid-19.

He tweeted that he felt honored to condecorate the following Cuban scientists: Gerardo Guillén, Eulogio Pimentel, Marta Ayala, Vicente Vérez, Yury Valdés, Dagmar García, Belinda Sánchez, Tammy Boggiano, Eduardo Ojito y Jorge Pérez.

‘ The heroes and also their collaborators, fairly recognized with the Lázaro Peña Order. Emotional afternoon of award for talent, dedication, sacrifice, discovery, collective work, immunization of the homeland,’ he wrote on the social network.

Díaz-Canel granted the honorary title by means of Presidential Decree number 307, published last September 30 in the Official Gazette of the Republic. Abdala, designed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), the first vaccine in Latin America, showed 92.28 percent effectiveness in its three-injection plan.

There is also the immunogen of the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV) Soberana 02 which, with two doses, showed 65.6 percent effectiveness in its final analysis of efficacy on symptomatic disease.
