The meeting between the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Camejo and the Permanent Under-Secretary, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, Philip Barton, highlighted the interest in strengthening bilateral ties in several fields.

The diplomats ratified the mutual intention to advance in the negotiations of the draft bilateral agreement on Political Dialogue and Cooperation, which will help to organize high-level meetings and to hold solid and systematic talks between both nations.

According to the Cuban News Agency, other topics on the agenda were climate change and human rights.

The Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister expressed her gratitude for the United Kingdom’s stance against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than half a century.

After the meeting, on his Twitter account, Philip Barton expressed his satisfaction with meeting the deputy minister, and described the exchange as ‘a wide-ranging exchange covering the breadth of the UK-Cuba relationship.’

Both countries have concrete agreements in the areas of higher education, energy, culture, sports and the financial sector and professional services, which have experienced significant progress in recent years.
