Sri Lanka and Cuba interested in strengthening academic exchange

Colombo, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) Minister of Education of Sri Lanka, Dinesh Gunawardena, and ambassador of Cuba, Andrés González, highlighted today the interest of the two countries to strengthen exchange in the academic sector.

Gunawardena, leader of the left-wing Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (People’s United Front) party, stressed the development of bilateral ties, a diplomatic source said.

He also recalled the cooperation offered by Cuba since the beginning of bilateral diplomatic relations in different fields, highlighting medical cooperation, especially the sending of doctors on the occasion of the 2004 tsunami.

The also member of Sri Lankan Parliament and president of the Sri Lanka-Cuba Friendship Association underlined the granting of scholarships to students from his country to attain various university degrees on the Caribbean island.

In addition, the diplomatic representative of Cuba let the Minister of Education of Sri Lanka know about the next University Congress, which will take place in Havana in March 2022.
