The complaint also includes 20 people arrested over the incident that killed seven people and injured dozens.

According to the mayor of Ghobeiri, Maan Al-Khalil, it is a claim by the municipality over the death of policeman Muhammad Al-Sayed and the firing of snipers at a peaceful march.

Al-Khalil stressed that the claim is in defense of public law and citizenship in order to preserve social and economic security.

The shooting caused great moral damage and several of the residents had to evacuate their homes and they are entitled for compensation, he said.

The pan-Arab channel Al Mayadeen quoted an unidentified army force which said that several of the detainees belonged to the Lebanese Forces party and confessed they had planned the operation.
