More than 1,000 medical students graduated in central Cuba

Santa Clara, Cuba, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) Over 1,120 medical students graduated on Wednesday in this city in central Cuba in different health specialties, in a combination of study and fight against Covid-19.

In a ceremony held at the Commander Ernesto Guevara sculpture complex, students from the Medicine, Nursing and Health Technology courses received their diplomas.

Dr. Ivette Irene Molina, rector of the Serafin Ruiz de Zarate Ruiz University of Medical Sciences, in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara, said that this graduation was the most historic of the institution, since it took place in exceptional conditions after completing the last two years of study amid Covid-19.

She praised the work of students and professors, who provided health services in the so-called red zones at hospitals or other healthcare centers for SARS-CoV-2 positive patients, and collaborated with research without abandoning the academic course.

The graduation was dedicated to the 55th anniversary of medical teaching in Villa Clara and to all health professionals who fight Covid-19 in Cuba and the world.

Danai Alvarez, chosen as the best student of her major in Health Information System, on Wednesday told Prensa Latina that she was graduating as a servant of the people, very proud and entirely happy. This graduate, who also received the Mario Muñoz Monroy Vanguard Diploma and the Student Scientific Merit Award, expressed her satisfaction for having received her degree in front of the statue of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, at the memorial that keeps the remains of the doctor who fought to death to save humanity.
