Uruguay considers Covid-19 as endemic

Montevideo, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) Uruguay on Wednesday left the Covid-19 pandemic behind to consider it as endemic, according to Public Health Minister Daniel Salinas.

However, Uruguay´s government keeps the decree determining validity of health emergency of March 2020.

Mr. Salinas stated at a press briefing that the ‘state’ of Covid-19 is already ‘endemic’, which was endorsed by consulting scientists who described current situation.

The member of the Uruguayan Society of Medicine Mauricio Bertullo said this step is mainly defined by significant reduction in the toll of Covid-19 deaths and serious cases.

On the other hand, Infectologist and Pediatrician Álvaro Galiana warned about what care must be maintained and especially towards riskier people, including children, so as not to return to the pandemic.
