Legislator urges Colombian government to implement Peace Agreement

Bogota, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) Luis Alberto Alban, representative to the Chamber of Congress (bicameral) of Colombia for the Comunes Party, on Wednesday urged the Government to implement the Peace Agreement.

The congressman tweeted that on October 14, the United Nations Security Council held sessions to analyze the status of the implementation of the Peace Agreement and expressed its concern.

Regarding the concept of Peace with Legality, which has been devised by the Government of Ivan Duque, the congressman pointed out that, about the issue of lands, housing and reintegration, the Council warned of delays, five years regarding the signing of the Peace Agreement in 2016.

Fifty percent of the people in the reintegration process do not have productive projects, in addition, ethnicity and gender continue to be excluded, Alban emphasized.

He stressed that the Duque Government does not have a public policy to dismantle illegal armed groups and in this sense, only this year, about 60,000 people have been displaced from Colombia due to violence and intimidation of those structures.

These events have a 90 percent impunity rate, said the legislator and remarked that ‘violence in Colombia is unacceptable.’
