When speaking at the meeting, the President referred particularly to the debt contracted with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which he inherited from the previous government, and pointed out that it is a clear example of what is wrong with the international financial system.
Before his counterparts of the G20 (Group of the Twenty), he stressed that the foreign debt Argentina faces with the IMF, unique in history for its amount (more than 44 billion dollars) and its repayment conditions, condemns generations who watch undaunted the fate that has been imposed on them.
“Those who got into debt without paying attention to the ruinous consequences that followed are as responsible as those who gave those resources to finance the flight of foreign currency in an unhinged economy”, said the Head of State.
In his speech, Fernandez pointed out that he came to the meeting to raise his voice against those who have subjected the capitalism of production and work to the logic of financial speculation and called for the G20 to get involved in the task of ensuring that social ethics give content to the economy.
On the Covid-19 situation, the president insisted that vaccines against the new coronavirus ought to become a global asset, pointing out that almost 80 percent of them have been applied in high-income countries.
Topics such as the economic and health situation and the fight against climate change are at the center of the summit, which will last until tomorrow in the Italian capital.
